Overview

Philadelphia is the birthplace of the United States of America. It’s here that the Founding Fathers signed the Declaration of Independence in 1776, giving birth to a new nation. When you explore the city, you’ll see so much connected to that momentous event. And there’s a whole lor more to discover, as well!

A great place to hop off first is the Betsy Ross House, the home of the famous seamstress who is said to have sewn the first American flag in this building. Whether the story is true or not, the house is one of Philadelphia’s most popular tourist attractions. Another great stop is LOVE park, officially called John F. Kennedy Plaza. This park is famous for its LOVE sign, which has been seen the world over in millions of pictures, postcards and Instagram posts.

A good lunchtime stop is the Reading Terminal Market, one of America´s largest and oldest public markets. Wander its aisles and marvel at all the delicious food on display. You’re sure to find something amazingly tasty to eat.

Back with the American revolution theme, two more unmissable stops are the Museum of the American Revolution and the Liberty Bell. The first does exactly what it says on the tin and the second is the famous bell that has come to symbolise all the bells that were rung when independence from Britain was finally declared in 1776. Today, the Liberty Bell is such an important emblem of American independence, it even has its own visitor centre.

If you’re looking to relax a little, there’s no better place than the fantastic Fairmount Park. Hopping off at one of our stops there to either relax on the grass or visit some of its brilliant attractions, such as the Please Touch Museum, which is a paradise for kids, or the majestic Civil War Memorial, which marks the entrance to the park. With more than 20 stops to choose from, you’ll have a brilliant time exploring Philadelphia.
