Know before you go
Please bring the following items: 1. Hiking boots 2. Warm clothing, gloves, a hat and hiking poles are highly recommended 3. Hiking crampons are recommended during winter 4. Bring water You MUST email [email protected] with your hotel details as soon as you receive your E-ticket to reconfirm your booking. Please ensure you enter your Attraction World booking reference along with departure date & surname in the subject line. Pick up starts 30 minutes before tour departure and you are requested to be ready and visible in time at your pickup location. Reykjavik Excursions offers pick up at designated bus stops, and selected hotels, guesthouses and hostels. If passengers miss their Reykjavik Excursions pick up they need to arrive at BSÍ Bus Terminal in time for their tour's departure at their own cost. Overview
As we drive along the Reykjanes peninsula, you are constantly in the presence of the roaring Atlantic Ocean, endless lava fields, and volcanic craters. An alien landscape, decorated by windblown palagonite and petrified troll formations.
Our adventure starts by the youngest volcano in Iceland, Fagradalsfjall Volcano, and the surrounding lava fields. The hike up to the view point takes about 40 minutes, where you will be able to explore the devastating yet beautiful aftermath of this recent volcanic eruption.
From 2021 there have been three eruptions on the peninsula, the most recent one ended on 6th of August 2023.
After the volcano hike, we stop by the bridge between continents, where you can walk between the continental plates that divide the peninsula. This stop underlines this unique placement directly on the Mid-Atlantic Ridge.
On our way back to Reykjavík, we stop by the largest mud pool in Iceland, Gunnuhver. You can feel the ground shake from the enormous power released from the boiling water and steam released.
We also visit one of the most iconic features of the Icelandic volcanic landscape, the boiling mud pools of Seltún, and the steaming colorful surrounding landscape. This stop is only available when the road to Seltún is open (usually closed during winter)
Please note that larger buses are restricted from entering the city center since 2017. Complying with the city´s regulation you will need to change to drop-off buses at BSI Bus Terminal that will take you to your designated bus stop or hotel.
